Today in Russia, “Tennis Legends” competed with Russian businessmen… on the court! The legends that took part were Bjorn Borg, Goran Ivanisevic, Martina Hingis, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marat Safin and Elena Dementieva. We already saw Elena Dementieva and her husband teaming up for a little beach tennis mixed doubles at the Moscow Cup last week, but pictures have surfaced of a new *dream* duo…
Even though she’s been retired for over a year, Elena Dementieva has yet to officially put down her “racquet.” Last week, she was seen playing beach tennis with hubby Maxim Afinogenov as her doubles partner. The two also acted as table tennis referees in, what looked like, a mini olympics for children.

On June 12th, Moscow will host the tournament called Tennis Legends for the third time. This year, it will include Elena Dementieva, Marat Safin, Martina Hingis, Yevgeny Kafelnikov and more. Lena D spoke to Russia 24 about the tournament as well as the upcoming Olympics. Yes, it’s in Russian.

It’s been just over a year since Elena Dementieva put down her tennis racquet and she’s still looking as lovely as ever! Lena D graces the cover of Krasota I Zdorovje’s March 2012 issue. Can’t read Russian? The pictures are just as enjoyable.
Elena Dementieva, who retired from tennis last year, was inducted into the Russian Tennis Hall of Fame this week along with 2004 French Open Champion Anastasia Myskina.
Elena also did an interview at the ceremony with GoTennis.ru, where she talked about her favorite award, her husband and if she still follows tennis.

Seems Elena Dementieva’s retirement from tennis has proved to be contagious. Today alone, 2 retirements were announced (and one half-retirement).
- American Taylor Dent retired today. Dent hopes to pursue a career related to tennis (perhaps tennis journalism?).
- Doubles specalist Martin Damm retired today and will coach the young American Ryan Harrison.

With a tearful goodbye, Elena Dementieva retired from tennis today after a loss at the WTA Championships to Francesca Schiavone. She ended her 13-year career and walks away from the WTA Tour as the world number 9.
