Andy Murray was honored Wednesday in Scotland, receiving the Freedom of Stirling and an honorary degree from the University. The visit took place at Dunblane High School with lots of local fans excited to see their hometown hero.
Andy said of the honor, “I’ve read a bit about it on the internet. I don’t know exactly what it lets me do but I don’t think I can do anything different to anyone else. It’s amazing, it doesn’t happen that often, so it shows the support from the public, which has been unbelievable. I’m grateful to Stirling Council, and the people of Scotland, for their continued belief and support, and want to thank them for bestowing on me this very special honor.”
Andy got emotional when he said, “Everyone knows how proud I am of where I come from, so this is a huge honor. Moving away was one of the sacrifices I had to make for my job and every time I come back it’s quite emotional. It’s been a very emotional today – I wasn’t in tears when I won Wimbledon.”
