Throwback Thursday: ATP Finals Group Pictures

The final eight for the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals is set. Just today, Stan Wawrinka and Richard Gasquet booked their spots to join Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro, Tomas Berdych and Roger Federer in London. Definitely looking forward to next week’s event, but let’s take a look back on the finals of the past, including those fabulous group photos.

In Houston, the tournament included Andy Roddick, Guillermo Coria, Rainer Schuettler, Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi and David Nalbandian. In the end, Federer defeated Agassi for the title. Some players looked less than pleased to be there, but don’t worry, the photos do improve over time.

Stand and smile! In Houston, the tournament included Roger Federer, Lleyton Hewitt, Carlos Moya, Gaston Gaudio, Andy Roddick, Marat Safin, Guillermo Coria and Tim Henman. Federer won again this year, defeating Hewitt in the final. Apparently everyone was forced to wear striped ties in this photo.

In Shanghai, the tournament included Roger Federer, Guillermo Coria, Ivan Ljubicic, David Nalbandian, Andre Agassi, Nikolay Davydenko, Gaston Gaudio and Rafael Nadal. Nalbandian stopped a 3-peat, defeating Federer in the final. The traditional uniform is ok, but didn’t last long.

In Shanghai, the tournament included Roger Federer, Ivan Ljubicic, Andy Roddick, David Nalbandian, Rafael Nadal, Nikolay Davydenko, Tommy Robredo and James Blake. Federer defeated Blake in the final but, more notably, the group photos became more artistic. Pretty sure this one belongs in Vogue.

In Shanghai, the tournament included Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko, Andy Roddick, Fernando Gonzalez, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer and Richard Gasquet. Again, Federer won (defeating Ferrer) and we were introduced to those giant terra-cotta statues.

In Shanghai, and the tournament included Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, Gilles Simon, Novak Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Martin del Potro. Djokovic capped off a great breakthrough year, defeating Davydenko in the final, but can we talk about the Delpo pose happening in the group picture? And nice that the photographer decided to bring the suits back.

London calling now, and this year’s tournament included Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Potro, Fernando Verdasco, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko and Robin Soderling. Davydenko shocked everyone, defeating Del Potro in the end. Everyone went matchy-matchy in grey suits with green ties. Don’t you wish they’d smile for the camera?

The smiliest group photo was this year in London. The tournament included Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Tomas Berdych, Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, Robin Soderling, Andy Murray and David Ferrer. Finally, Federer reclaimed his throne, defeating Nadal in the final.

In London, the tournament included Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Mardy Fish, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych. Federer was winner, yet again, defeating Tsonga this time. This photo gives off a slight boy-band vibe, but very cool addition of the photo on the building behind them.

Again in London last year, with Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, ┬áJo-Wilfried Tsonga, Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Juan Martin del Potro and Janko Tipsarevic. It was 1 and 2 in the final, with Djokovic defeating Federer in the end. They went in height order for the photo and who’s missing? David Ferrer was busy winning the Paris Masters title and unfortunately didn’t make the pic.
