Andy Murray is a Wimbledon champion. But that doesn’t mean he’s too cool to call his gran. Within minutes of lifting the trophy, Andy called his grandparents, Roy and Shirley Erskine, in Dunblane. Shirley said she had told him: “Your jinx has been removed.” She added: “He hardly had any time, just a few minutes to talk, but he asked how I was.”
They were unable to travel to Wimbledon but were glued to their TVs at home.
“There was a dance done in the living room. We just thought it was great, wonderful. We’re very proud and pleased for his sake but also for Judith, his mother. She has worked her socks off to help get him where he is,” Roy said.
Watch the Erskines talk about how thrilled they were for their grandson’s achievement.
