Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-3 in Madrid to become the queen of blue clay and take home one of the weirdest trophies on the tour. S did her best to pose with the spiky stick, which has to be some sort of security hazard when checking in for a flight. Or do you carry it on?

You just made a great point. How on earth do you get that thing through airport security?! Maybe it’s one of the trophies the players don’t actually get to keep. I’ve always considered the trophies one of the many failures of the Madrid tournament. Remember when Safina and Roger won and they got runner-up plates and the runners-up got what looked like my grandmother’s fruit bowl? Any way, congrats to Serena on a great week. Hope she’ll do well in Rome!
