Novak Djokovic was awarded the Karadjordjeva Star Medal today, National Day in Serbia. President Tadic said the five-time Grand Slam champion deserved the Medal for “special merits in representing Serbia.”
Djokovic said, “I may have dreamed of raising the trophy at Wimbledon, but I could never have thought that my country would reward me with such great honour.”
The ceremony was attended by state leaders and diplomats, including Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, the President of the Republic of Serbian Milorad Dodik, the Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irenaeus, Chief of Staff Ljubisa Diković, the Serbian government ministers and MPs.
