Today in Valencia, the players took the official photo of the tournament, which included David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Nicolas Almagro, Juan Monaco, Gilles Simon, Milos Raonic and John Isner. Missing were Juan Martin del Potro and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who were playing in the Vienna final (against each other).
Ferrer spoke about being drawn to face Fernando Verdasco in the first round, saying: “I would prefer having faced him in another round, not the first, but this is proof the fans can watch the big games from the first day. I have to make every effort to beat him.”
After speaking with the press, Feliciano Lopez, David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Rohan Bopanna took part in a competition to measure how far they could hit a tennis ball in the pool of water at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
Lopez won by hitting the ball 70 meters and received 2,000 euros from Corona Beer, the sponsor of the ATP World Tour. Feli, the thoughtful guy that he is, donated the entire prize to the Foundation Juan Carlos Ferrero, that has helped cancer patients for 3 years.
Ferrer had the last laugh when he gave a challenge for next year, saying: ”Next year I will bring to Croatian Ivo Karlovic and win the prize.”
Cha-ching!
