Maria Sharapova has paved her clay road to Roland Garros even smoother after defeating last year’s French Open runner-up Sam Stosur 6-2, 6-4 in the Italian Open final.
Sharapova diffused Stosur’s kick serve and dominated with her forehand winners en route to her first title of the year.

Q: Did Venus buy all of those hats yesterday?
S. Williams: The past few days she has been in hat mode: She has been in all the foregrounds and I was in the background. She loves to shop so I was a little disappointed.
Q: So she is going to bring back a bunch of hats. What do you take back…
