Kirilenko, Zvonareva Win In Hong Kong

Team Russia has taken a commanding 2-0 lead over the Americas at Hong Kong’s World Team Challenge.

First, Maria Kirilenko was down to Melanie Oudin, having lost the first set, but came back in a second set tie break to level things out. She eventually took the deciding set at love, defeating the young American 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.

Next, WTA No.2 Vera Zvonareva defeated Grand Slam champion Venus Williams 6-4, 6-2, who had shaky starts to the sets, losing serve.

“It’s an exciting moment for me. It’s the first match of the year and I’m really happy the way I started. Venus is a great champion and it’s always a pleasure to play against her,” Zvonareva said.
