Day 8 was finals day at the Hopman Cup and brought in a crowd of 8,564 people to Perth’s Burswood Dome.
Justine Henin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands were up first, with Henin getting the win 7-6, 6-3. John Isner was up next and leveled the Final with a 6-3, 6-4 over Ruben Bemelmans.
The decider was the mixed doubles match, and USA dominated with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Belgium to win the Hopman Cup.
”It’s been an amazing week. It’s my first time in Perth and I’ve really enjoyed myself. It’s funny, I saw this (diamond tennis ball trophy) actually when I first got here and I thought it was the best trophy in sports,” Mattek-Sands said.
”I’ve got to thank Bethanie; her back’s got to be hurting from carrying me all week. She was rock solid all week long,” Isner said.
Thanks to the Hopman Cup team for an excellent event. Until next year!
