Shots From Basel Day 1

The Davidoff Swiss Indoors Tennis Tournament at St Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland began today. Some of my favorite shots from Day 1:

If you couldn’t already tell by this sign, the Swiss love their Roger Federer. Notice the gold crowns and the sheer size of it. It’s huge, but not as big as Rog is in that teeny country.

Roger Federer was up 6-4, 5-2 against Alexandr Dolgopolov when poor Dolgo rolled his ankle. As if he wasn’t down and out enough already, he was forced to retire when the trainer advised against playing further and injuring himself more. Guess it gave Roger a good laugh, he was going to beat him anyways.

Novak Djokovic sat down with the media today. He looks relaxed.

This is qualifier Robin Haase of Holland (although he looks more like Josh Groban, if you ask me). He defeated wild card Stephane Bohli 6-4, 6-3.

Josh Groban again? Not even close this time – Singer Paul Potts performed at the opening of the tournament today.
