Besides Rafael Nadal’s Nike jacket, next on our shopping list was the shirt Srdjan Djokovic, Novak Djokovic’s dad, wore during his US Open run. Daddy Djokovic (seen above) wasn’t wearing his heart on his sleeve, he was wearing his son’s face on his shirt.
Novak said of the fashion choice:
“He’s a proud father, what can I say? I don’t know exactly where he got his fancy shirt – it was somewhere in Belgrade – but he’s my father and, if he wants to wear this shirt, he can wear this shirt. I would never wear the shirt. I don’t like myself that much.”
We did some research online so we could order our Novak face shirt, but came to the conclusion Srdjan probably bought it in some Serbian tourist shop (or, perhaps he made it himself?) and the chances were very slim that we’d acquire our own.
Mama Djokovic, Dijana, on the other hand, sported a more conservative (or, less flashy?) version of the shirt, designed by Novak’s clothing sponsor, Sergio Tacchini (seen above).
So, while we don’t have the money to fly to Serbia and buy our shirt to match Srdjan, we’re okay with settling for Dijana’s choice.
The Sergio Tacchini version of Novak’s face shirt retails for $40 and can be purchased at Tennis Warehouse.
