Reflections: Day 8 of Wimbledon

5 Things That Happened Today at Wimbledon

  1. Number 2 seed Venus Williams was eliminated by Tsvetana Pironkova who is currently ranked No. 82 in the world.
  2. Vera Zvonareva defeated Kim Clijsters to advance to the women’s semifinals.
  3. The surprise women’s semifinal matchups have been set:  Serena Williams (1) vs. Petra Kvitova and Vera Zvonareva (21) vs. Tsvetana Pironkova. (Do any of these women have a prayer of beating Serena??)
  4. Bob and Mike Bryan are one step closer to breaking the record for most-ever doubles wins by advancing to the quarterfinals.
  5. Matt Harvey’s latest poem, “McEnroe,” is about guess who. (And if you think it’s about Patrick, then you cannot be serious.)
