Reflections: Day 7 of Wimbledon

Did you catch any of today’s action? All of the singles’ Round of 16 matches took place today. From the shortest upset (Wozniacki out in 46 minutes!) to the longest (Roddick out in a five set thriller!) to historic rematches (Serena Williams got the better of Maria Sharapova while Kim Clijsters took out fellow Belgian Justine Henin), today was quite the manic Monday!

Upset of the Day: Petra Kvitova def. Caroline Wozniacki (3), 6-2, 6-0. Sorry Yen-Hsun “Rendy” Lu, but your takedown of Andy Roddick took five sets while Kvitova’s dismantling of world No. 2 Wozniacki’s game took less than … wait for it … 46 minutes.

Other Eliminated Singles Seeds: Jelena Jankovic (4), Agnieszka Radwanska (7), David Ferrer (9), Marion Bartoli (11), Lleyton Hewitt (15), Jurgen Melzer (16), Maria Sharapova (16), Justine Henin (17), Sam Querrey (18), Julien Benneteau (32)

Retirement: Jelena Jankovic (against Vera Zvonareva), back pain.

Also … Mahut got a wild card entry to Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships; don’t you think that he and John Isner deserve invitations for life after their marathon match last week? We learned how difficult it is to be a stenographer for post-match interviews. And Rafael Nadal was fined $2,000 for allegedly receiving coaching from his Uncle Toni during last week’s match against Philip Petzschner.
